Trail Overview

Lake Lane is the primary entrance into the western section of the Silver Lake WMA. The management office and maintenance buildings will be the first things you pass as you enter the WMA. The trail surface is primarily packed dirt with several grassy sections. There is only one pothole that tends to hold water, but it shouldn't pose problems as it's not deep. The trail winds through stands of uncultivated southern pine trees, so there is a natural southern Georgia feel to the area. Several points along the southern end of the trail offer elevated views of the WMA's namesake, Silver Lake. The trail and its offshoots are well marked with signage leading to other smaller lakes and trails. Several of the lakes in the WMA are managed to maintain healthy fish populations and may be closed to fishing at times. The end of the trail connects to Frog Pond Road and Star Pond Trail, providing options on where to explore next. As with most Georgia WMAs, a valid hunting or fishing license is required to access the WMA property.
