Trail Overview

Alec Mountain - FS 58E is a 2.2-mile out-and-back route that follows a packed dirt and gravel surface through heavily forested terrain. The trail remains a single lane with few places to pass and is described as not maintained, carrying a moderate difficulty rating. An open area at the end of the route serves as the terminus, with an additional open area located near the midpoint. Conditions are mostly smooth overall, but several rocky sections and a heavily rutted segment contribute significantly to the trail’s moderate rating. Highway-legal vehicles only are permitted, and seasonal access is generally available from March 15 through January 15. Drivers should exercise caution in the rutted section, where ruts may be deep enough to roll a vehicle, and should carefully assess conditions before proceeding through damaged portions of the trail.

Took 58E today in a Lifted Gladiator Rubicon on 37’s. Trail is very narrow and somewhat overgrown on the sides so plenty of branches drag the side/roof. Trail earns its rating with moderately deep ruts, off camber sections, deep water filled holes and a muddy section that would be very challenging for a stock vehicle. The trail is a narrow shelf that would not permit two vehicles to pass or turn around for significant portions. There is a nice wide turnaround about halfway up the trail and that is as far as I went. A nice little trail but you need decent flex and at least good all terrain tires. I would avoid taking more than 3-4 vehicles at a time up this trail.
