Trail Overview
Thunder's Crossing is one of the few dirt roads in the Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area. The trail connects North Road and Rattlesnake Camp Road. The trail is a sand forestry road with some soft sand spots that can turn into mud holes after heavy rain. The road is not always wide enough for two vehicles to pass. All vehicles must be street legal. The Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area offers a variety of activities: hunting, hiking, biking, bird and wildlife watching. Two caves are accessible for experienced and licensed scuba divers. A daily-use or recreational permit is required to enter the WMA.
Difficulty
This is an easy, non-technical trail suitable for most vehicles; however, the difficulty may increase after heavy rain.
History
The Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area is part of a nearly unbroken 200-mile stretch of protected coastline. The area’s abundant natural resources have attracted humans for thousands of years.
