Trail Overview
A secluded sandy trail winding through dense Florida scrub and palmetto flats. Unlike many Ocala trails, portions of the route feature surprisingly firm sand that allows easier travel without worry, but these sections are then very suddenly broken up by deep soft sand, pronounced ruts, and narrow corridors through thick vegetation and blind turns. Visibility is limited in several areas due to said blind turns and dense brush lining both sides of the trail. Make sure to take turns at a speed allowing for reaction time to other riders.
The route feels remote despite its relatively short length and closeness to other trails, with little evidence of nearby traffic and very few open areas. Occasional gaps in the vegetation provide brief views across surrounding scrub plains and forest, but the scenery and views is limited. Full-size vehicles can fit through the trail, though expect pinstriping in certain areas due to tight brush. The northern end of the trail has very deep sugar sand that can get vehicles stuck if dealt with improperly.
Difficulty
The deep soft sand and heavily rutted sections are present throughout the trail, particularly near tight blind corners where maintaining momentum can be crucial. Dense vegetation crowds the trail in several areas, making driving full-size vehicles more difficult. The northern end terminates in a particularly deep sand section that can challenge new drivers. While there are no major obstacles, ledges, or climbs, the combination of ruts, tight turns, and soft sand requires a level of caution.
