Trail Overview

Rock Pond Road winds through the northern part of Section A of the Apalachee WMA. Unlike other roads through the Apalachee WMA, Rock Pond Road is generally open year-round outside of defined game hunting periods. Rock Pond Road is a relatively flat, packed dirt trail with several soft areas that will present a challenge to 2WD vehicles in wet weather. The road winds through stands of southern pine, scrub, and collections of oaks near ponds where there is water available. The namesake water body, Rock Pond, currently features an active bald eagle nest that is clearly visible from the pond approach. There are several spots where trails appear to branch off from the Rock Pond trail, but are closed to vehicular traffic, even if signs have been removed. As with most Georgia WMAs, a valid hunting or fishing license is required to access the WMA property.
