Trail Overview
Road 15 is a scenic 2.4-mile off-road route in the northeast section of the Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area, offering a mix of sandy terrain and seasonal mud challenges for street-legal, high-clearance 4WD vehicles. Connecting Williams Road at the west end and Long Loop Road 4 at the east end, this trail runs through flat, open terrain with minor elevation changes of less than three feet. The trail surface consists primarily of packed and loose sand, but heavy rains can quickly create deep, muddy washouts and standing water holes up to two feet deep. Drivers must be prepared for narrow sections where passing another vehicle is difficult, demanding careful wheel placement and situational awareness.
Access to this portion of the 63,000-acre wildlife management area is available from US Route 441, located roughly 25 miles southeast of St. Cloud. Since the area historically hosted some of the last open-range cattle ranching in the United States, visitors can still appreciate its expansive, undeveloped landscape. A daily-use or recreational permit is required to enter the Water Management Area, and all visitors must wear hunter orange during active hunting seasons.
