Trail Overview

Point Washington State Forest 1 offers offroaders an easy but engaging journey through scenic pine flatwoods, making it a perfect adventure for those looking to experience Florida's unique coastal ecosystems. Spanning roughly 9 miles of flat terrain with minimal elevation changes, this trail primarily consists of unpaved, single-vehicle-wide sandy roads that wind through the state forest near Santa Rosa Beach. Drivers can expect a technical rating of 3, largely due to sections of deep, loose sand and occasional deep mud holes that can accumulate after rainfall. Four-wheel drive with decent ground clearance is highly recommended to easily navigate these soft sand sections and avoid getting bogged down. The route features beautiful views of towering longleaf pines, saw palmettos, and wetland areas typical of the Gulf Coast region. Since signage throughout the forest can be inconsistent, offroaders should stay alert for trail markings and potential closures while navigating. The area is highly accessible year-round, though summer rains can significantly increase the depth of the mud holes, adding a bit more challenge to the route. Excellent cell service is available across almost the entire trail, providing an extra layer of safety. For those looking to extend their stay, the state forest offers dispersed camping options alongside two reservation-only campgrounds, allowing visitors to camp right under the stars. Conveniently located just south of U.S. Highway 98, this trail serves as a quick escape into nature, situated only minutes away from the vibrant coastal communities of Seagrove Beach and Seaside.

Route had been slightly improved in a few areas from last year. On-X route led us down routes closed off to vehicle traffic on the eastern side of the park. All in all a nice ride through a wilder side of Flooded ida just a short distance from the beautiful sandy beaches.

We ran the whole forest except for trail 4. Definitely a fun set of trails with some loose sand and a few challenging mud holes due to the rain. I would 100% recommend a 4x4 if you plan on visiting the trails off 30A!

Very fun trail, about half dirt/sand and half gravel. A few deep mud areas and fun spots to spin the tires. Lots of little offshoots but most of them were closed. Saw one jeep on the side but that was it. Very fun trail, we had fun for about 4 hours exploring all of the Washington state forest trails. Could most likely do it in a two wheel drive. Definitely recommend trying it out.

Only the man road is open. All the side roads are posted closed. A few hunters and a couple campers. No washouts or mud holes

The main road was open, but many side trails were overgrown/ impassable or had gates closed and locked.

Main trail was open. All the side roads are closed. Super easy road. Part of this looks like it follows power lines which I’ve heard isn’t legal here. I just followed the main road, which later had a sign leading in that same direction saying road was closed.
