Trail Overview
A more difficult challenge than its neighbor to the east, this section contains deeper ruts, more muddy sections, bigger root/rock step-ups, and steeper climbs. Warning, if you start from the east, the first ~6 miles of track are generally easier, just very tight with deep ruts; however, the biggest challenge, a long, steep-ish rock garden section, is presented on the far west end near Forest Road 715.1. If you are unable to complete this challenge, you will have to backtrack, as there are no alt routes or bail-outs. Additionally, this rock garden offers a few potential spots to drop your bike (or yourself) off of a small cliff, which was hard to photograph. For this reason, it may be advisable to preview the rock garden areas before fully committing to them. There are a few other easy sections that have the potential to drop off small ledges or creek beds, as well. Overall, a fun challenge for riders looking for a bit more adventure.
Difficulty
Steep rock garden section with 12+ inch rocks, 1-2 foot deep ruts, very tight switchbacks, and the added danger of drop-offs immediately to the side of the trail.
