Trail Overview
Predator Road is a lesser-known off-road trail situated near the popular Hackett, Longwater, and Metberry Gulches in Colorado. This route is tighter and less traveled than its neighboring gulch trails, offering a quieter alternative with scenic views of Pikes Peak and the Sangre de Cristo Range. The drive begins with a relatively easy gradient, winding through a historic burn area and groves of young aspen trees.
As the trail progresses, it becomes increasingly narrow and technical. Multiple tight turns with closely spaced trees present a challenge for longer-wheelbase vehicles, particularly those exceeding 115 inches. The route becomes steeper and features prominent moguls as it descends toward the turnaround point. Near the bottom, drivers will encounter a challenging rock garden that is best tackled with at least 33-inch tires and a rear locker.
The route for full-size vehicles and ATVs ends where the trail transitions into a single-track dirt bike path. The wide rock garden area right before this transition serves as the ideal spot to turn around. Continuing beyond this point is highly discouraged, as the trail quickly dead-ends, leaving a very tight and difficult backup maneuver that is especially problematic for groups.
Difficulty
Portions of the trail are tight, steep, and moguled, with several turns flanked by close trees. Vehicles over 115" wheelbase will need to work through these sections carefully. Some areas are off-camber and may cause your vehicle to lean toward trailside trees. The rock garden at the bottom calls for a locker and at least 33s.
