Trail Overview
Porter Cutoff is an alternate route that makes its way up to Porter Mountain while following the rolling foothills and low sagebrush rather than aspen trees. It is a very easy trail, especially in the downhill direction. It is just a fun trail to cruise along, as it follows the contours of the land before reaching the aspen forest and the main Porter Mountain Trail. The last part of the trail snakes through an aspen forest just before reaching the intersection with Forest Service Road 534. It is definitely worth completing both these trails in a loop configuration to see as much as possible. This trail requires a Colorado OHV permit, as the state does not allow for out-of-state reciprocity.
