Trail Overview

Onemile is a fairly short Jeep trail near Almont. (not actually one mile) It winds through a few areas of trees and many areas of open sagebrush with great views of the surrounding mountains and creeks. Not an alpine trail, but a very enjoyable trip. This photo represents our overall impression of the trail. Up and down hills, in and out of valleys, and all on a not-too-bad road. There are many roads in the area, and this is but one of the ways to navigate them. Lost Canyon Road is wide and well-graded if you need a quick route to Gunnison. The north portion of the trail has numerous steep hill climbs that call for low range. Oh yeah, there is also the rim-deep beaver pond to ford, also in the north part of the trail. It can be run in either direction, but we recommend starting at the north end. This gives you scenic vistas as you descend the west part into Almont.

Started on the north side from onemile campground. Trail was hot and dusty but pretty easy going. Took 2:30 min ish to get to the midway point at lost canyon road and headed out. Lots of wild flowers. The beaver ponds and meadow in the picture must be on the second half of the trail because i didn't see them. Beautiful trail would do again with more time or more snacks for the kids. It isn't a long trail distance wise but took a while due to the rocky trail. Power wagon had plenty of clearance average 5mph.

the north end up by Browns Gulch had a barbwire fence about 1/4-1/2 mile from the road. So I turned around. No sign so I wasn't sure if I could open - go through - and close? All in all pretty good easy trail. great views.

Tiny bit of snow left but not covering the entire road in any spots. Very muddy and slick in some spots, and some rocky sections that made me pucker. Took 4ish hours.

It had rained last night and there were lots of mud-holes and slippery areas. Greatest incline was 21-degrees, but many 15-degree inclines. Only once did we have to engage lockers to get past an up-hill muddy area. Our jeep has 37" tires and no lift and we didn't hit the underside of the vehicle once. We would have had to be much more careful and been spotted in a number of places with the 33" tires that came with the Jeep.
