Trail Overview

The Nate Creek singletrack starts at the end of the Lou Creek ATV trail and heads south for 7 miles through the Uncompahgre National Forest to an inconspicuous entrance on Owl Creek Pass. This is a hidden gem advanced trail in a less trafficked part of Colorado. From the north end, it starts as a rocky and rooty single track, with technical switchbacks and steep climbs immediately. It side-hills on a narrow trail between the tight and steep switchbacks. The narrow trail traverses across broad open hillsides as it climbs up, then has to descend back down on really narrow shelfy sections of trail and steep downhill switchbacks that are incredibly tight and technical that most riders cannot ride in one fluid motion. You'll find embedded roots and rocks on the inside corner of the switchbacks. There's potential for a significant downfall in the area, with thick logs down that will require some technical skill to ride over. It drops into a beautiful aspen grove at the bottom of the switchbacks that are incredible in autumn when the leaves change color and drop down through a series of ledges down to a rocky, dry riverbed. It climbs some steep slopes to a ridgeline overlooking the valley, with more steep and narrow sections and more logs, and descends through the oak brush with an incredible view of the rocky cliffs in the distance. As the trail continues south, it has more forest sections with roots and rocks and small rocky stream crossings that are shallow in fall. The last half mile of the trail gets steep again as it climbs out of the creek drainages to end on Owl Creek Pass.
