Middle Blue Creek is a short, scenic forested trail ideal for beginner offroaders and high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles seeking a quick escape into the high country. Spanning approximately 2.2 miles, this easy dirt route features an elevation climb of 885 feet, starting at 9,927 feet and topping out at 10,812 feet. The track winds through a dense forest canopy along Baldy Road before ending at a quiet overlook on the hillside. While the views at the dead-end turnaround are modest, the journey offers a peaceful drive suitable for stock four-wheel-drive SUVs, trucks, and SxSs looking for a relaxed mountain route.
With a technical rating of 2, the primary trail surface is dirt, but drivers should be prepared for several large built-in water diversion mounds that function as speed bumps along the path. These drainage humps can collect pooling water during the early season snowmelt or after heavy summer rains, potentially adding mild mud or water crossings to the route. High-clearance vehicles will easily navigate these mounds, though drivers in lower-clearance stock vehicles should take them at a slow pace. The trail is best run from late spring through fall when the high-altitude route is clear of winter snow.
