Trail Overview

The Ledge Trail is probably the most difficult trail in the Hardscrabble Trail System near Gypsum, Colorado. It starts at dirt road 8384 under power lines and comes up to a saddle with a nice overlook of the town of Gypsum. It immediately goes right, up a rocky hill climb to a ridge line with some bigger rocks in the trail. Ride along the ridge line under the pinyon pine. There are a couple moderate rock ledges here that add some difficulty. They are like small rock steps on a loose steep downhill. When the trail comes to a spot where you can see the houses below you, the trail goes to the right and starts to drop off the ridge line. This is a rocky descent, with sharp curves between the trees. It drops into a very tight ravine with tight curves and some ledges. The ravine is overgrown and harder to navigate because it is narrow. Eventually it dumps you out at a wash under the power lines on dirt road 8385. This road dead ends at private property. This is probably the hardest trail in the system due to more rocks and the tight ravine.
