Trail Overview

Lange Canyon ATV trail makes a 5.4-mile loop off 608 Road in the San Juan National Forest in the trail system east of Bayfield, Colorado. The route has many sections on oil well access roads that are full-width gravel roads, but also has many sections of easy trail winding through the forest. It goes through various terrains, starting with sagebrush meadows, then sparse ponderosa pine forests, and climbing up to hilltops covered in gambel oak bushes. Most of the trail is pretty easy, with sections with ruts and washouts with lots of small rock pieces, dips, and a few steeper spots. You'll ride past several oil wells, under powerlines, and have to open and close lots of gates. The trail has many navigational turns, intersecting with the access roads several times. The turns might be easy to miss, but trail markers are typically at every intersection. On the southeast side of the loop, a small spur takes you up to the vista, with a nice view over the hills. The steepest spots with some washouts are the climb up to and descent down from the vista. This trail is a nice ride combined with the Horizon Loop and Ridge Trail, which can be ridden in a few hours.
