Trail Overview

BLM Route 2755 is a hard-packed dirt road that is passable by most vehicles in dry conditions. While you may encounter occasional ruts or muddy sections after rain, this is generally an easy and accessible route. The road begins in a valley bordered by private property before climbing into the outer edge of the East Troublesome Fire burn scar. The 2020 East Troublesome Fire was one of the largest wildfires in Colorado's history, dramatically reshaping the surrounding landscape. Although new vegetation is gradually returning, much of the route remains lined with standing dead trees, creating a stark reminder of the fire's impact. Visitors should also be aware that burn scar areas can present hazards such as falling trees, erosion, and muddy conditions following storms. BLM 2755 and all spur roads are subject to seasonal closures.

Difficulty

The Kinney Creek (BLM 2755) trail offers a highly accessible and remarkably relaxed off-road experience, making it universally categorized as an easy (level 2), scenic mountain route. The driving surface is overwhelmingly composed of smooth, packed dirt accompanied by only minor, scattered rocks measuring up to 2 inches in diameter. While the beautiful trail does become slightly tighter towards the end—introducing a marginal risk of light pinstriping from encroaching brush—the encountered ruts remain notably small and easily navigable for nearly all standard vehicles. Because this particular section of BLM land completely lacks winter maintenance, the route is impassable during snowy months, but during the summer, it provides a beautifully mild, unchallenging drive suitable for a wide variety of outdoor enthusiasts.
