Trail Overview

This is an easy trail, 1 or 2 Difficulty at most, something that you can take your stock Honda Civic on most of it. The southern end of this trail is the Cox Canyon Arch trailhead just barely inside New Mexico's northern border with Colorado. The entrance to the parking lot itself might be a 2 or even 3, depending on whether it was muddy last year or not, or if a rain storm washed out the entrance. But even if you can't get your Honda Civic to the trailhead, there's only another 400 yards of hiking on a half-mile hike. There were a couple of washed-out parts of the dirt road that one needed to slow down for, which, to me, earned an overall rating of 1. Without the washouts, it's just a dirt road through high desert hills.

This route is generally easy to navigate, but some water drainages and culverts have overflowed and may not be passable in low-clearance vehicles.
