Trail Overview

The primary trail surface is decomposed granite with some dirt and persistent surface mud. The trail tends to hold standing water on the north end. There is a great, quiet, and scenic cutoff from Rampart Range Road to Mount Herman Road in the Rampart Range. Late fall, winter, and early spring may cause ice damming on the intermittent Beaver Creek. These ice dams cause significant ice flows, and the low, north-facing area holds deep top-loaded snow. Search and rescue have conducted hundreds of family rescues here in the winter. Some GPS units used to show this as a "shortest" route from Woodland Park, CO, to Denver.

Super easy trail this time of year. Tons of people camping but passed no other vehicles

Fits a full size truck pretty easy. Only a couple spots where it’s tight but otherwise very easy and quiet side road from Mt Herman to Rampart range road. Only ones on it in the early morning.

Nice detour to get off 300/320, it's a 1 maybe a 2 this time of year.

There was no snow or ice anywhere along the trail. It is a bit narrow but not technical whatsoever. Could be sketchy if there was snow or ice, but in our condition we would say this is a one or a two

There’s a little ice and snow on the trail but honestly the easiest 4 I’ve done out here. Hell’s creek road is much more difficult but also rated a 4. Just be careful around the ice but it is very easily passable.

about a half mile from Mt. Herman Rd the snow bank pushes too close to a washed out edge that is steep

There as about 6 inches of snow on most the trail with occasional drifts/spots in the shade that were about a foot. Was perfect for views without too much challenge. Only spot was about halfway through there’s water drainage that eroded some of the snow which sucked my back left tire of the ledge and boy did our butts pucker 😅

Not sure why it’s rated a 4. This is a simple, loose sandy road with some washboard. When it’s wet- maybe a 2. Big vans and even a converted 2WD transport truck were back there camping. Most AWD will do this without any hassle.
