Trail Overview
Originating directly off a paved county highway, CR 128 is a convenient, highly accessible 2.2-mile dirt route that serves as a perfect retreat for overlanders seeking a quick, easy camp after a long day of driving. The trail is predominantly flat and straightforward, initially cutting through the open desert scrub before winding into scattered groves of juniper trees. Within the first few hundred yards of the trailhead, explorers will find a sprawling group campsite equipped with fire rings, capable of easily accommodating up to eight vehicles. As you progress further down the track, the route reveals dozens of secluded, individual camping spots tucked away amongst the trees. These highly desirable sites offer excellent natural shade and privacy, and most are equipped with existing stone fire rings. While traveling this peaceful corridor, be sure to remain alert and share the road, as you will frequently encounter horseback riders and dirt bikes utilizing the area.

Difficulty
Under dry conditions, CR 128 is a classic Level 2 trail. The unmaintained dirt surface features shallow erosion ruts measuring strictly under 12 inches deep, making the route entirely navigable for high-clearance 2WD vehicles, stock AWD crossovers, and standard 4x4s. Drivers should, however, exercise caution regarding the scattered sharp rocks along the tread, as they pose a legitimate puncture risk for standard street tires; utilizing heavy-duty or all-terrain tires is highly recommended. Finally, a severe weather warning applies to this entire region: absolutely do not enter this trail if rain is present or forecasted. The local desert dirt quickly devolves into an impassable mud that will strand even the most capable off-road trucks.
