Trail Overview

BLM 132 kicks off immediately upon pulling off the paved highway. There is a substantial dirt staging area at the entrance capable of holding 10 vehicles or trailers, frequently utilized by equestrians. While only 2 miles long, this is a surprisingly dynamic and unmaintained route. Shortly after the start, the trail features a vast open clearing perfect for dispersed group camping for up to 10 rigs; this is the final safe turnaround spot for trailers. Beyond this clearing, the terrain shifts abruptly, introducing significant obstacles, severe gradients, and off-camber sections. The middle section offers intermittent wide spots for passing. The trail becomes notably easier in the final quarter, concluding at a series of shaded, private campsites tucked among trees. Due to mapping overlap, drivers must end their journey at these final shaded campsites; do not proceed further. Be advised that this area has extremely high equestrian use; strict protocol is required when encountering horses.

Difficulty

BLM 132 is a short but punchy, unmaintained dirt trail that presents immediate technical challenges, earning a solid Level 4 rating. Drivers must navigate persistent erosion ruts ranging from 10 to 18 inches deep, frequently forcing the vehicle into uncomfortably severe 20-degree off-camber angles. A primary technical highlight is a very sharp, near 50-degree steep drop immediately followed by a challenging incline through large, 18-inch ruts. High ground clearance is non-negotiable, and capable 4WD is strongly recommended. Crucially, a severe weather restriction applies: absolutely do not enter this area if it has rained recently or if precipitation is forecasted. The local soil transforms into horrendous mud guaranteed to strand even the most capable 4x4 trucks.
