Bear Creek ATV 709

The Bear Creek ATV trail descends through the Rio Grande National Forest for almost 5 miles from north to south. The north end starts as a wide shelfy road above Bear Creek, going straight at the base of a wide open hillside. It starts to curve into the trees but continues at the base of the mountain. The trail gets rockier in the trees, with some embedded small boulders, and loose rocks, frequently having to ride over a very bumpy surface. You will likely find some moisture and mud on the trail in several spots, also making it more rutted. As it gradually descends, it goes through big grassy meadows, dropping down from the high alpine into more of a drier terrain. It ends on Bear Road. This trail is popular for hunters in the fall.
