Trail Overview

Like many of the Hartman Rocks Recreation Area trails, Bambi is a mix of fast trails through sagebrush, high desert terrain, and slab rock obstacles. It starts wide, like a two-track, going southeast. You can take this trail to access the more difficult Sawtooth Trail, which makes a loop off of Bambi. If going northwest to southeast, you'll mostly be going downhill and down the obstacles. Throughout the trail, you'll find medium-sized ramped rock ledges. They look big but have excellent traction, and they are relatively straightforward with proper braking. They are also relatively easy in the uphill direction as they are ramped and not blunt. As the trail turns east, it parallels a ravine, going through some aspen groves, which makes it more exciting and scenic. The east side ends at the Bambi Trailhead Parking Area on Gold Basin Road (County Road 38). The trail is closed from March 15 - May 15 for sage grouse conservation.

Difficulty

This is an intermediate single track due to several moderate rock ledge obstacles, but they are not overly difficult as they are ramped, not too steep, and with great traction.
