Trail Overview
This one vehicle-wide trail cuts through a sandy sand dune area, starting on Commune Road and ending on Pipeline Road. The surface has off-camber sections, ruts, holes, whoops, and washboards, creating a very bumpy, uneven surface throughout. There are some small hills and some bumps scattered along the way, adding to the dynamic terrain. You'll encounter various tracks along the trail that link up in various sections, giving you routing options through the dunes. The trail cuts through Tarantula Wash as it winds through the landscape. This is part of the Anza Borrego SVRA area, where registered off road vehicles and highway legal vehicles are allowed.
Difficulty
The combination of off-camber sections, ruts, holes, whoops, and washboards on the very bumpy, uneven surface creates technical challenges throughout. The sandy dune area requires four wheel drive, and airing down is essential for maintaining traction and momentum. The one vehicle width leaves no margin for error. The small hills and bumps add elevation changes that demand careful throttle control. This is a challenging dune route.
