Trail Overview
West Evans (FS 31E62) departs from Rancheria Road South and climbs steadily through dense pine forest within Sequoia National Forest. The trail is extremely narrow, barely one vehicle wide, with low-hanging branches that will make contact with taller vehicles throughout. Evidence of recent forest fire is abundant along the route, and cleared trees from fire and trail maintenance efforts create tight sections requiring careful maneuvering. A barbed wire fence runs along portions of the trail and warrants attention, particularly for wider vehicles. Cattle graze the area seasonally, so watch for livestock on the trail.
Difficulty
The primary challenges are the extreme narrowness of the trail, low-hanging branches for tall vehicles, tight maneuvering sections between recently cleared trees, and the barbed wire fence running alongside. The steady uphill climb adds physical demand. While no large technical obstacles are present, the confined conditions require slow and deliberate driving throughout.
