Trail Overview
This trail, Two Road Road (yes, there are two Roads in the name), is accessed off Monitor Pass Road. This scenic dirt track winds through a peaceful aspen forest before gradually climbing up the hillside. Early on, the trail meanders through stands of tall, white-barked trees, especially beautiful in autumn, while a few sections present small embedded rocks to keep things interesting. A well-worn bypass skirts a downed tree, signaling that this route is still actively explored. As you gain elevation, the forest opens to reveal sweeping views of the surrounding ridgelines and distant valleys of Nevada. The trail narrows in a few areas, making wider rigs work a little harder to squeeze through the trees. Several pullouts provide perfect spots for quick stops, photos, or a thermos of coffee with a view.
Difficulty
This trail earns a solid Rating 2 and is approachable for most off-road capable vehicles. While four-wheel drive and high clearance aren’t strictly required, they’re recommended for peace of mind—especially if you encounter rutted areas or seasonal runoff. The narrow sections through the aspen forest may challenge wider rigs, particularly if you’re towing or have extra gear on your sides. The trail surface is mostly hard-packed dirt with some rocky patches, but nothing too loose or technical. The short climb up the hillside adds just enough elevation to make it feel like a backcountry escape without requiring extensive prep or recovery gear. It’s a relaxing run with just a hint of edge.
