Trail Overview

This trail takes you near the 395 up to a viewpoint just below Mono Jim Peak. It travels through a valley where cows graze up to an area overlooking Convict Lake, Mono Lake, Mount Morrison, Laurel Mountain, and the Glass Mountain Range. It starts off sandy but turns into a rocky trail with some very deep articulated spots near the end. There is a cattle gate that should be closed when passed.

Difficulty

Most of this trail is relatively easy but the last section has a very deep articulated rutted section that can be 4x4 high clearance only. There are a few large rocks along the sides of the trail to avoid that can cause an early trip to get a fresh alignment.

Gate is locked at start of trail. Assuming seasonal.

Easy trail with the exception of the very off camber section that parallels 395. Take the other trail until the 2 intersect. It’s also just barely wide enough for 1 vehicle with very few options for passing others.

At the beginning the trail was very off camber whilst traversing the side of the hill, with a very steep drop off on one side. Would not recommend for top heavy vehicles with RTT’s. Mine was extremely close to tipping over and rolling down the hill. Better to take the other trail until they cross over at the top of the hill.
