Trail Overview

This trail is a fun loop around the abandoned train track side of sugarloaf hill. There are many left-behind and falling-apart things to look at along the way. Old concrete pads, trash piles, abandoned bicycles, and even washed-out rail bridges with the tracks just hanging around. The route is mostly sand with deep washboard and whoop sections. Be on the lookout for sneaky rocks hiding in the sand, just waiting to take out a sidewall of your tire. A few other routes also parallel this one and cross back and forth across the tracks. It really is a choose-your-own-adventure area. Just be sure to air down before you start to keep from getting stuck. A few bars of LTE Verizon cell fade in and out.

Difficulty

This Trail has long soft sand sections that are impassable by heavier vehicles that are not aired down. There are some steep off-camber sections entering into and out of some of the washes. Flash flooding is possible during the rainy season and summer monsoons.

This was a fun trail that paralleled the abandoned rail tracks. Although it's pretty flat, the sand is deceiving and can get pretty soft at points so suggest airing down. Instead of looping, we extended the trip on some other trails off Dos Cabezos Road, so you can definitely make a day of it if you want!
