Trail Overview
Starvation Creek FS 23S65 winds through rolling hills within Sequoia National Forest through what was once a mature forest, now heavily impacted by the 2021 Windy Fire. Most of the trees along the route are burned, giving the landscape an open and stark character. Overgrown grass has taken over much of the understory in the wake of the fire. Beautiful views of the valleys below open up throughout the route. The trail ends early at a locked gate due to extensive downed trees beyond. A large area is available to turn around before the gate. A few tight squeeze points between cut and downed trees appear before the terminus and require careful maneuvering.
Difficulty
The primary challenges are the tight squeeze points between cut downed trees and the overgrown grass, narrowing the trail in sections. The locked gate ends the trail earlier than its full extent. The turnaround area before the gate is generous and accessible.
