Trail Overview

The majority of this trail is a tight and winding singletrack through a dry pine forest on dusty loose dirt. Some of the sections are tighter between the leafy dogwoods, and other sections are more open and sparsely lined with big pines and cedars. There was a lot of stick debris in the trail and logs lining the trail, but no log obstacles actually blocking the trail, as this is a highly maintained trail system and any downfall will likely get cut. Most of the trail goes through pretty gradual terrain, except for a couple steeper spots. There is one small climb on the south end up from the intersection with trail #5, as it climbs up a short slope with several bigger root bands across the trail. There's also a steeper climb on the northwest side, as it connects to trail #5 again, that had some loose rock and ruts. It's a fun extra loop to add when already riding trail #5, as it is short and easy, only 2.5 miles long.

Access Description

The Burlington Trail System is located off of Highway 20 in the Tahoe National Forest. The trails are accessible from the Skillman Campground, the Chalk Bluff Staging Area, or the Alpha Omega Observation Site/Scenic View Area. The trails are open year round, but close intermittently during wet conditions or during forestry operations, so it is necessary to call the Yuba River Ranger District for the status of the trail system: (530) 478-6253.
