Trail Overview

Towle Mill is a 10 mile long tight and winding singletrack loop in the Burlington Trail System. It is easily accessed south of the Skillman Campground off of FS 20-012. The terrain is very similar throughout the entire route, as it continuously winds throughout the rolling forest floor, curving around the trees with sharp corners and switchbacks like a turn track. Most of it is a smooth dusty dirt surface, with minimal rock. There are several root bands that are more dug out below the root and will be harder to get up for the less experienced rider. The roots create small ledges and drop offs, but the majority of them are easy to ride over. Most of the trail goes through a pretty wide corridor of pine trees, but there are a couple tight sections like riding under a tree tunnel, and a couple shelfier spots where it side-hills along the edge of the hillside, but on a very mild slope so there is no exposure. There are several road crossings so you have a couple bail out options from the long route.
