Trail Overview

This wide, fine-dirt trail leads to Sand Bar Flat Campground near the dam and the Middle Fork Stanislaus River. The route was recently maintained, with ruts remaining under 2 inches deep and plenty of room for vehicles to pass. Several wide switchbacks and tight turns are present, but they provide enough space for trailers and fifth wheels. The loose dirt can become more difficult when wet. Dense forest and tall trees provide shade throughout most of the drive. More than six campsites are located within the first mile, including a level, shaded site around 1.1 miles that accommodates up to four vehicles and includes a large fire ring. The route continues through the forest before reaching Sand Bar Flat Campground.
