Trail Overview
This trail starts off at the North Fork of San Felipe Wash and is a wide wash starting from the east. It gets narrower as you head west and enter Anza Borrego Desert State Park, transitioning from open to more confined quarters. The surface is super fine deep sand throughout, requiring constant momentum management. The route is fairly smooth overall, but there are changes in elevation where you cross other washes, creating small climbs or descents at intersections. The trail is lined with lots of desert bushes and seasonal wildflowers that add color when blooming and frame your journey through the wash. This is part of Anza Borrego Desert State Park and is restricted to highway legal vehicles only. No OHV vehicles.
Difficulty
The super fine deep sand requires four wheel drive and good tires, which are highly recommended, with airing down essential for maintaining traction. The wide eastern section provides room to navigate, but the narrowing western section demands more careful line choice. The elevation changes at wash crossings require attention but aren't major obstacles. Highway legal vehicles only means street registered vehicles with adequate sand capability.
