Trail Overview

This is the fast-track spur you need for quick access to high-country camping and is uniquely located right along the ridge above China Peak Mountain Resort. This 1.5-mile route is a well-defined single-lane track with a smooth surface of sandy decomposed granite, allowing for an efficient and quick ascent or descent. Crucially, the entire road passes through the high-severity burn area of the 2020 Creek Wildfire, leaving a visually striking landscape of skeletal snags and wide-open sky. While the ground is smooth and fast, the drive requires constant vigilance due to the persistent threat of falling dead timber and debris. It serves as a necessary link, keeping your travel on track in this highly exposed zone.

Difficulty

This trail remains accessible and easy for a wide range of vehicles, including all passenger vehicles when dry. The rating is assigned purely due to the high elevation and the presence of scattered minor rocks and loose material that necessitate high clearance for sustained comfort at speed. However, no specialized 4WD techniques or locker engagement are required. This makes the trail an ideal, stress-free route for access, provided environmental hazards are managed.
