Trail Overview

Red Point (5001K-002) is a short, but challenging spur off of Elliot Ranch Road near the Foresthill OHV area. The trail is not particularly difficult, but is quite narrow - and gets overgrown quickly. The majority of the trail is just wide enough for a mid-size truck, with few opportunities to pull off or pass oncoming traffic. The first quarter mile of the trail is well-maintained and easily traversed in 2WD. The transition to the more difficult portion of the trail is obvious, with an easy turn-around point. Turning around later on is much more difficult, and requires more off-roading experience.

Difficulty

The primary reason for Technical Rating 4 is how narrow the trail is, along with low visibility, and the skill required to pass oncoming traffic. The trail seems innocuous but can become dangerous very quickly for inexperienced off-roaders.

It is an extremely narrow trail. Any size vehicle will suffer from scratches and pinstriping. The very beginning of the trail has a nice view. The trail itself is unremarkable, with nothing notable at the end except a plaque. Would not recommend attempting.

Wide enough for a jeep but quite overgrown. Don’t go if you value your paint whatsoever. Had to winch a tree off the trail. Also the trail goes downhill, it got too narrow at the very bottom so idk if there’s anything interesting down there. In the snow we struggled to get back up the hill. It’s a nice view right at the start
