Trail Overview

Red Hills Recreation (BLM) area is a scenic day use only location. There are tons of hiking trails in the area, as well as the Serpentine Loop Trail which is a mild to moderate trail with tons of seasonal water crossings and picnic areas near the water. Accessible to most 4x4 and AWD vehicles, smaller rocks, and mud puddles, no camping in the area but it makes for a nice day trip! The area is a historic location where many old westerns were filmed. Tons of spring flowers and water flowing throughout the trail.

Amazing beginner trail! Actual rocks and not gravel, jagged rocks are common so having good tires is a must. Great views!

Very fun trail! It was my first trail and my Subaru Crosstrek handled it great. Most likely could have done it stock. Felt a little difficult at times but that might be due to my lack of experience. Super fun definitely will be coming back. There's service throughout the whole trail pretty much and great views!

For a beginner this is a very good learning experience off roading. There's enough uneven surfaces to challenge you but any stock off road vehicle should be able to handle this. I had a great time.

Great trail for teaching. It's short, there are no real difficult obstacles unless it's been raining. It was open the entire way, and a great tree for group run photo shots. I will be bringing folks new to OHV stuff here, because it's just a nice and slow trail, with pretty views.

Nice intro trail, it was foggy so I didn't get much of a view. Was a little muddy in parts, but easy.

Road says closed from both sides of entry. But the trail is open, it's mainly closed for average vehicles on passing through. But the trail is open for capable vehicles going through the trail.

Fun trail with minor obstacles and a couple of decent hill climbs. Easily accomplished in stock suspension wrangler. Didn’t AD but probably would’ve been a good idea. A few groups of hikers on a Sunday afternoon. Overall fun and short. Good starter trail for those wanting to try it out
