Trail Overview
This trail starts on the north border of the Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area, which is also next to Arroyo Salado Wash. The route runs along the electrical poles, creating an easy landmark to follow. The surface is packed sand with uneven terrain throughout. The trail goes in and out of washes as it navigates the landscape, creating a very bumpy ride that will test your suspension. The route goes by a landfill, so be aware of the industrial presence, including trucks. There is a public restroom on the corner of Pole Line Road and Gas Dome Trail, and there are also some large off road hills to explore at that location. Despite the remote desert setting, there is great cell service along this trail.
Difficulty
This is an easy trail with the main considerations being the uneven surfaces and very bumpy ride that will shake things up. The packed sand provides decent traction. Going in and out of washes adds minor vertical challenges, but nothing technical. The bumpy conditions will slow your pace, but they aren't difficult to navigate. The electrical poles provide excellent navigation reference points.
