Trail Overview
Opal Canyon Road trail offers a unique desert run within the scenic Red Rock Canyon State Park. This route is a fine sand trail, generally about one vehicle wide. It begins just off Sierra View Road near Highway 14 and makes its way south toward Ransburg, traversing a desert area full of lots of brush and some hills of sand. The trail is within the Red Rock Canyon State Park, meaning all OHVs require a green sticker and other requirements, and must stay within designated trails. Additionally, be advised that camping is strictly prohibited along this route.
Difficulty
The trail is rated a 2 for difficulty, classifying it as fairly smooth and accessible for most 4x4 vehicles. This ease of navigation is largely due to the fact that the trail is seasonally graded. However, the route does go in and out of a few washes, which require drivers to be aware of weather conditions and the potential for flash floods, which pose the main hazard to a smooth run.
