Mono Creek Gauge Trail is a beautiful trail through a forest along Mono Creek. There are a lot of dispersed camp areas along the creek. There is great fishing holes to explore. The water for the creek is controlled by the Edison Dam. Be cautious as there can be a class 5 rapids along this river at times and without any notice.

This trail has sandy and off-level sections. The trail can be muddy after rains. Some larger rocks may cause issues for low-clearance vehicles.

History

This trail was developed as part of the SCE dam project to allow access even after construction of the dam and power station.

Access Description

From Fresno, take Highway 168 to Huntington Lake. Take Kaiser Pass road to Edison Reservoir. Vermillion Valley dam forms Edison reservoir. Highway 168 is excellent and fast. Kaiser Pass road is narrow, pot-holed and slow, but very scenic. From Fresno, figure 1.5 - 2 hours to Huntington Lake then another hour to Edison Lake.
