Trail Overview
Mission Mine Road is a challenging desert track in the historic Dale Mining District that is ideal for off-roaders seeking steep climbs and rugged terrain. Stretching just under one mile, this route provides access to the historic Mission Mine site and climbs from an elevation of 1,518 feet up to 1,769 feet. The trail begins near Old Dale Road and proceeds northwest, crossing rugged terrain with loose rock, dirt, and sand. A highly demanding hill climb lies just past the mine site, which presents a significant obstacle requiring high clearance, low range, and solid driving technique.
While the route can be traversed in either direction, tackling hill climb heading north is particularly challenging and recommended only for built 4WD vehicles. Driving south down the hill is slightly easier. Nearby historical mine sites like the Sunset Mine and Golden Egg Mine offer excellent exploring opportunities, and the trail easily connects with the larger network of desert trails including San Bernardino Wash and Old Dale Road.
Difficulty
There is one very difficult section just past the mine. This section might be easier travelling south, but would still be challenging. Heading north up the difficult hill is recommended only for high clearance 4WD and experienced drivers.
Access Description
This trail is located on BLM-managed land within the Dale Mining District. No permits or fees are required to drive the route. Vehicles should be equipped with high clearance and four-wheel drive, particularly for the steep hill climb near the mine.
