Trail Overview
This narrow, fine-dirt trail climbs Masonic Mountain through frequent rock gardens with 2–6 inch rocks, 6–10 inch ruts, 8-inch ledges, and sections reaching 8 degrees off-camber. Heavy vegetation makes pinstriping likely. Around 0.5 miles, the route offers excellent views of the rock formations on Masonic Mountain, followed by a level, shaded campsite with a fire ring around 0.7 miles. Around 0.8 miles, the trail becomes significantly more difficult, with ruts and whoops reaching 3 feet deep, tight branches, and 10–15 degrees off-camber sections. The final 0.2 miles includes an extremely hazardous wash with a drop of approximately 4 feet or more. Slipping into the wash could require vehicle recovery, so traveling with another vehicle is highly recommended.
Difficulty
This trail is rated Level 5 because of the 3-foot ruts and whoops, 10–15 degree off-camber terrain, tight obstacles, and a final wash with a 4-foot-plus drop. The final section carries significant recovery risk and should be approached with extreme caution.
