Trail Overview

This is a wide-open easy trail from the Chappie staging area, past Mammoth Mountain, to a lunch spot. It's easy for all riding abilities, with a ton of overlooks along the way. During the spring, you will find a lot of waterfalls along the road. This route also goes through several burn scars, which has opened up the canopy for some pretty amazing views.

Difficulty

This is a wide open trail. It's very easy for all, with some sections of some easy rocks and different small obstacles. It's passable in a sedan. Dirt bikers will be picking lines in some areas, but really you can ride the whole road.

History

There are multiple old mines along the way to stop at and take pictures.

Found the trail to be in pretty normal shape, a few small washed areas from the recent rain, but the whole trail was still wide enough for full-sized trucks (I was in a chevy avalanche) and smooth enough that a Subaru Crostrek was able to come with.

Thought this was going to be easy. As soon as you enter the staging area you have to drive through the beginning of the trail which is rough and only one 4x4 could drive this leg of the trail. There are some hairy steep turns in the first leg of the trail You will know when this sketchy part ends because you will hit a main road. Turn right then left to now drive on the fire road. Thing is, the fire road can be taken from the camp sight avoiding the more technical part of the trail. Anyway, we drove to the lookout before heading back. There was one area of the fire road where a tree and some rocks were blocking the road so only one vehicle could pass. Needless to say we took the fire road down through the camp site on the way back.

Trail is now called "the chute" and is definitely a Jeep and smaller trail. road marker says 2 way trail, it's a 1 way trail. the tacoma hit it just fine. fun time, and great view. was a ssuuuuper tight run but still fun:)

Made it up to Bohemotash Mountain just fine. Didn’t explore any further though so I’m unsure about lock gates at the top of the trail.
