Trail Overview
This challenging route offers great views of the Eastern Sierra mountains and the White Mountains across Highway 395 as it navigates through varied terrain. Most of this trail is owned by the LAWDP, so no camping is allowed along the route. From Buttermilk Road, the trail improves after the first half mile, transitioning to mostly sand with some small rocks. The trail ends near a river, and the trail to the Little Sister mine no longer exists. Various spur trails branch off, including one that goes to the Lucky Strike Mine, where you can drive partway up but must walk the rest of the way to reach the destination.

Difficulty
This trail earns a moderate difficulty rating due to its challenging terrain features. There are some very deep ruts that are maneuverable, but be cautious not to get stuck in one. The route includes off-camber articulating sections in the very beginning, along with a water crossing. Some of the holes and ruts are over 18 inches deep, requiring careful navigation. Four-wheel drive and a high clearance vehicle are required for safe passage.
