Trail Overview
Welcome to Little Trinity, a short and easy route winding through a mixed pine forest with signs of historical logging activity throughout the area. This trail climbs into a private timberland. The route begins on a wide gravel and dirt Forest Service road marked by route sign 39N65, which climbs gently along the hillside. Shortly after starting, you will pass a flat, open clearing that serves well as a staging area or a casual dispersed campsite with evidence of recent campfire rings. As you continue up the track, the road transitions from loose gravel into a smoother surface padded by pine needles, soft dirt, and sawdust. The surrounding environment consists of towering pine trees, scattered fallen timber, low brush, and small water runoff channels along the edges. The path narrows slightly as it climbs up a gravel slope before coming to a sudden stop at a locked gate clearly marked with private property and no-ATV signage. Because there is no room to turn around at the gate, vehicles must back down approximately a quarter-mile to the nearest wide spot to turn around. Overall, it is a calm, short forest drive with pleasant tree cover and simple navigation.
Difficulty
Little Trinity has straightforward terrain with manageable road conditions. The trail consists of a mostly level, single-lane dirt and gravel road with light pine needle cover and minor water runoff ruts that require minimal attention. Standard ground clearance is sufficient to navigate the smooth sections and light gravel without issue. The primary challenge on this trail is not the terrain itself, but the lack of a turnaround spot at the locked gate at the end, requiring vehicles to carefully reverse roughly a quarter-mile down a narrow hillside section.
