Trail Overview
Little Round Top Trail is a great all-arounder trail for the area. There are just enough flowing sections to feel the flow and enough technical terrain to keep you entertained while also not being overly challenging like some other trails nearby in the area. The trail is an out-and-back with no legal way to make a loop out of it. The start is a quick, moderately steep bit of very loose dirt (silt-like for most of the season outside immediately after the rain) and littered with some rocks. Immediately following, the grade mellows, and you start cruising through a beautiful open meadow and looking out at Caples Lake before heading back into the trees. Once you enter the trees, the rocks grow in size, and line choice becomes more important. There are some fun, challenging rock lines, but all happen to have alternate lines around them. Little Round Top stays primarily a flatter grade and rocky through the whole middle section of the trail before getting back further and into a bit faster sections that go in and out of the woods and through meadows. The last third of the trail is less technically challenging but still has small rock sections to pick your way through. Overall, this trail has a little of everything to enjoy and is a fun one for this area.
