Trail Overview
Continuing straight past the upper stretch of the Round Valley 4x4 Trail (FS 7N93), this scenic spur climbs the final ridge to the high peak above Lake Valley in Stanislaus National Forest. The route travels across wide-open subalpine terrain along the edge of the Mokelumne Wilderness, surrounded by low mountain brush, scattered weathered trees, and endless sky. The single-lane track is made of packed mountain dirt mixed with loose gravel and scattered rocks. While noticeably gentler and far less steep than the lower trail needed to reach it, the road steadily works its way up to an expansive summit plateau. Outdoor enthusiasts make the climb to reach a premier ridge-top dispersed campsite and take in spectacular 360-degree panoramic views overlooking the deep valleys and distant mountain crests below.
Difficulty
Rated a 3, this trail is much easier than the lower trail that accesses it, but still demands a careful driving line over uneven, rocky ground. Obstacles include loose cobblestones, small embedded rocks, and light dirt ruts along the climb. Maintaining a slow, steady momentum and picking a clean line around larger loose rocks ensures good tire grip, while adequate ground clearance helps prevent underbody scrapes over rougher patches.
