Trail Overview
This BLM land trail starts off BLM 232 and is a sand and gravel route that cuts through a hidden canyon lined with 20 to 30-foot-tall sand walls, creating a dramatic enclosed environment. After a coupleof miles, it enters the hidden canyon showcasing these impressive walls. At mile 3, the trail comes out of the canyon near the end and travels on the main plateau, transitioning from the enclosed canyon to open terrain. You'll encounter some tall ruts over 18 inches on some of the curves, creating technical challenges as you navigate the winding canyon sections.
Difficulty
The sand and gravel surface requires momentum management and four wheel drive is recommended. Some tall ruts up to 18 inches on curves are serious obstacles requiring high clearance and careful line choice, especially when combined with the turning required. The canyon environment with 20 to 30-foot sand walls means flash flood awareness is critical. The curves with tall ruts demand skilled driving and possibly spotting in the tighter sections. The ramp out of the canyon is steep, narrow, and has an off-camber section leaning to the cliff edge.
