Trail Overview
This is an easy 3.3-mile in-and-out trail with over a 2,000-foot drop in elevation that is open 4/1-12/31. This is an Adopt-a-Trail maintained by the Foresthill 4 Wheelers and is usually opened up after the seasonal closure is over. This trail drops down to the North Fork of the Middle Fork of the American River on a very narrow and brushy shelf road, starting in a burn scar before going into a thick forest. There are some off-camber sections and a small rocky area, along with some great views. Beware, there is a moderate amount of poison oak in the area. The trail ends at a beautiful, large, flat, shaded area that was an old mining area near the edge of a river that has trout. Some old mining relics are still in the area. This is a very remote area without any cell service within the American River Ranger District of the Tahoe National Forest.
History
There is some old mining equipment at the bottom near the river.
