Trail Overview

This road starts at the top of Indian Pass, which is a rocky, narrow pass that has a few switchbacks that wind down into Galivan Wash, which features deep, soft sand. The route has some incredible views of red rock and windy canyon sections. 4x4 is required in order to keep from being bogged down. Heavy adventure bikes are difficult to ride through this soft sand wash unless you are experienced.

History

Picacho was an old mining town that was abandoned in 1938 when the Imperial Dam was created, and the upper Colorado River area flooded that town. Most residents packed up and went to nearby Yuma, Arizona.
