Trail Overview
This over 1.5-mile trail climbs just under 150 feet, starting near Owens River Road. The surface is sand and pumice, beginning in an open meadow filled with grasses and bushes before transitioning into a pine forest around the one-mile mark. The trail is one vehicle wide with some overgrown brush in the median that's relatively short. You'll enjoy views of Bald Mountain, the Glass Mountains, and part of the Eastern Sierras. As you enter the forest, you'll encounter some ruts under 12 inches caused by heavy side-by-side use. There's a tree down that's been there a long time with a permanent bypass around it, and several downed trees have been cut and pushed to the side of the road, so use caution as you pass. The trail ends at a dead end with a turnaround and a dispersed campsite.
Difficulty
This is an easy trail with minimal technical challenges. The sand and pumice surface is straightforward to navigate, and the ruts in the forest section are manageable at under 12 inches. The downed trees have been cleared from the trail itself, though you'll need to pay attention when passing the cut sections pushed to the sides.
