Trail Overview
FS 25S02 departs from the north side of Old State Road and runs along a shelf road delivering some of the most stunning views in the network. Lake Isabella, the town of Lake Isabella, and the surrounding mountains spread out in full panorama as the trail works its way along the ridge. Evidence of the 2021 French Fire is visible in sections along the route. Wildlife is a highlight here. Pheasant, partridge, and quail are frequently spotted darting along the trail, and seasonal wildflowers bloom along the corridor when conditions are right, adding color to the fine sandy landscape.
Difficulty
The trail features countless drainage humps acting as very large speed bumps, which are the defining challenge of the route and appear consistently throughout. Loose sand sections add traction variability between the humps. High clearance is recommended to navigate the drainage humps cleanly without dragging the undercarriage.
